Baltic Sea Day at the Lithuanian Sea Museum

On August 27, the Lithuanian Sea Museum invites you to celebrate Baltic Sea Day in Lithuanian at the Baltic Sea Animal Rehabilitation Centre in Smiltynė.

The event offers an opportunity to discover the Baltic Sea from a closer perspective, learn more about its wildlife and the challenges it faces, and explore how our everyday choices can contribute to a healthier sea.

All activities are free of charge.

Programme

12:00 | Guided tour “I Change – the Sea Changes”
A guided tour of the Baltic Sea Animal Rehabilitation Centre. Participants will learn more about the animals cared for at the centre, the challenges they face, and how human activities affect the Baltic Sea.
The tour is in Lithuanian. Registration required.

13:00–14:30 | Workshop “Dress Up with the Sea”
Bring your own cotton bag, T-shirt, sweatshirt, or another cotton item and decorate it with marine-themed stamps and colours.

14:30 | Guided tour “I Change – the Sea Changes”
A second opportunity to visit the Baltic Sea Animal Rehabilitation Centre and learn more about the animals living in the Baltic Sea and the work carried out to help them.

The number of places for the guided tours is limited, so advance registration is required.

Baltic Sea Day is celebrated on the last Thursday of August. The tradition was initiated by the Finnish organisation John Nurminen Foundation and brings together countries and communities across the Baltic Sea region. The day draws attention to the condition of the Baltic Sea, its natural and cultural significance, and our shared responsibility for its future.

The Lithuanian Sea Museum joins this initiative by inviting the public to learn, create, and reflect on our relationship with the Baltic Sea.
